Dirtsurfer's first beer commercial became a reality this last month, when the latest in the series of Kokanee ads began airing in Canada. Following the Kokanee storyline that was introduced years ago, the Sasquatch outruns and outsmarts the Ranger, Arnold and the Glacier Girls to steal their case of Kokanee. However this year he did it on his brand new Kokanee-blue Dirtsurfer! We are hoping to someday show the commercial on our website, but for now we have frameshots for you to follow the story below.

We were all blown away when we received a call from Tony Krygier of Epyx Mountainboards near the end of September 2006. He had been contacted by Rich Vigurs, an agent for Reel Athletes looking to cast a rider in a Kokanee ad that was to feature the Sasquatch riding a Dirtsurfer. Tony directed them to us and we hooked them up with MAD MIKE Hachkowski, the obvious choice for the Sasquatch role. The team at Quixote Films and Kokanee were extremely easy to work with and focused on making the commercial work with our sport. We spent a half hour over the phone reviewing our existing video footage and discussing what terrains would work best for the shots they were looking for. Big thanks to the commercial shoot in Mexico for providing us with the opportunity to show some excellent follow and lead-cam footage that was inspirational to the Kokanee and Quixote teams. More big thanks to everyone that has jumped with a Dirtsurfer on film as it was essential to show that this was possible for the important final scene where the Sasquatch jumps off a cliff to make his escape.

Mike was flown out less than a week later to help scout shoot locations and I joined him a day later. I primarily followed Mike around with a video camera to capture behind-the-scenes footage we realized would be a lot of fun to watch afterwards. Although, I'm sure Mike had an even better time riding around in the Sasquatch suit, it was a lot of fun just to hang out on set with the Ranger, Arnold and the girls. As funny as you think the Ranger and Arnold are in the commercials they are utterly hilarious in person!

Props to Mike for completing a nice jump on the sketchiest landing imaginable! Although the commercial shows the Sasquatch disappear over a cliff, Mike had to land in dirt that was so soft his wheel sank in atleast 8 inches and then recover in time to stop himself from going over the actual cliff which was about 20 feet from where he landed and a good 200 meter sheer drop to the valley below. The scene where you see the Sasquatch running from the Ranger's shack with the case of Kokanee shows you an accurate view from the top of the cliff and it was a very real possibility that someone could have fallen over it during the shoot! Even more props to the Stunt doubles for the Glacier Girls. These girls had to jump their mountainbikes over the sketchiest wooden jump onto the same sketchy landing near the same real cliff, all while wearing only skimpy shorts and tops with very little padding!

Thanks again to all involved for giving Dirtsurfer and our sport a huge burst of exposure! As coincidence would have it, the Kokanee commercial has seemed to trigger a wave of Sasquatch sightings recently. Several reputable observers have sent us their photos this week. As it seems that the beast, may in fact be a hardcore Dirtsurfer rider, we have decided to track it down and not only prove its existence, but perhaps hook up for an epic ride.
