The first stop of the 2007 US Tour, dubbed Dirty Vegas due to its last scheduled stop, was the US Open Mountainboarding Championships at Snowmass, Colorado. The US Open has been occurring annually since 2001 and except for an appearance by Cahn Mitchell in 2002, had never seen a Dirtsurfer. The goal was simple: demonstrate the Dirtsurfer on the boardercross course and pull off some good airs in the terrain park. The team had never ridden a course similar to Snowmass, nor seen the Snowmass course in its entirety, before arriving so it was questionable whether they would be able to put on much of a demonstration at all. The team was also unsure as to how they would be treated by the mountainboard family that had been attending this event for 6 years. Would they accept the Dirtsurfer team or ridicule them for being different?

Well, on day one all questions were laid to rest. The Dirtsurfer team, Jeremy Bresciani, Aaron Enevoldsen, JM Sicotte and Chris Middleton, was welcomed by Mitch of Dirtcloud Racing and Van Dewitt of The Dirtstar Army and encouraged to give it all they had. Despite seven, tight, sharp-peaked rollers immediately following the drop-in, followed by many more rollers interspersed between 4 large bermed turns, the team made some solid runs through the boardercross course on their first attempt! It only got better from there. A four-man Dirtsurfer heat was introduced to the crowd during the qualifiers and the guys looked fast! This was followed by JM Sicotte nearly landing a 270 off the hip that shocked all mountainboarders present! On the last day, both JM Sicotte and Aaron "Anger" Enevoldsen climbed the 18 foot ladder to the top of the largest roller we'd ever seen and dropped in to hit a 6-foot kicker and land a jump over a 15-foot gap! JM's 360 attempt on his first drop-in drew a HUGE roar from the crowd, but it was the landings that sealed it. The Team was invited to bring back a larger crew next year and offered a Dirtsurfer category in the Downhill, Dirt Boardercross and Freestyle Big Air Slopestyle events! This is a HUGE accomplishment for our sport and we cannot thank JM Sicotte, Aaron Enevoldsen and Chris Middleton enough for putting it all out there! These guys are pioneers that have now paved the way for the off-road, resort riding side of our sport!

Special thanks to Lisa, Mitch, Rob, Van, Samantha, Josh, Kody, Jeremy, Brian, Carolyn, Ali and everyone at the event for making us feel so welcome! It was a great feeling to be able to share our excitement with like-minded riders!
